NAGTri inaugurals in Davao city

A bumper field of 90 triathletes displayed their wares in the inaugurals of the 2008 National Age Group Triathlon series at Davao Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City over the weekend.

Hogging the limelight in the 1-kilometer swim, 30-km bike and 7.5-km run race that wound up in the lush garden/lawn of host Davao Waterfront Insular Hotel were the father-and-son tandem of Edgardo and Jefferson Tabacon Villar.

Fifty eight-year old Edgardo clocked one hour 49 minutes and 13 seconds in ruling the 55-59 years group while Jefferson checked in at 1:40:18 to emerge as gold medalist in 19 years and below..

Brenda Arabe, Director of Marketing and Events of the host hotel, said, “We have been a partner of Triathlon Association of the Philippines for this event the past six years for triathlon, whose prime bonus is communing with nature, is congruent to one of our hotel's many allures.”

Organized by TRAP and Triathlon Association of Davao (TRIAD) headed by Dr. Oscar Escudero, a triathlon pioneer in the country, with SPEEDO as presenter and Department of Tourism, David's Salon and Fitness First as sponsors, the sprint triathlon attracted entries from Davao City, Tagum City, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Maa (Davao del Sur) and Manila.

The team of former long distance running champion Stella Mamac ruled the relays with an aggregate time of 1:28:11..

Other individual male winners included: male- Arvie Kane Abejuela (1:43:03), 20-24; Edson Blanco (1:46:02), 25-29; Christopher Eyao (1:38:16), 30-34; Placido Diaz (1:43:01), 35-39; Gregorio Borlongan (1:45:45), 40-44; Felix Francisco Motil (1:42:29), 46-49; Gemelo Romero (1:55:49), 50-54; Asuedo Ingco (2:06:08), 60 & above

Romelyn Villamor clinched the gold medal in the female 20-24 years. Felina Tadiaman was tops in the 30-34 category and Cosette Plaza in the 35-39.

Clark Special Economic Zone is the next stop of the six-leg NAGTri on May 25.
