O3 Moved to Subic

After careful deliberation and evaluation, TRAP has regretfully decided to move the ITU Asian O3 Long Distance Triathlon, scheduled for August 2-3, 2008, from its original site in Camiguin Island to the Subic Bay Free Port.

The race date remains the same. The main reasons for the move are:

1. The lack of a safe swim course that could meet the technical requirements of a long race like the O3;

2. the relative difficulty of getting to Camiguin (an issue raised by some of you);

3. logistical difficulties; and

4. the lack of a concentrated location of hotels and resorts near the projected race site.

Subic Bay has a long tradition of hosting triathlons, including the O2. We will adapt some of the O2 course features and add loops, then re-design the swim and run. The info will be sent out as soon as it is available.

The O3 is the longest ITU approved race and the ITU Subic Bay Asian O3 will be the first ever O3 held in Asia. This is part of TRAP’s efforts to promote long distance triathlons after conducting O2’s in 2006 and 2007 also at Subic Bay.

Hope not too many of you are inconvinienced by the change.
