Camiguin International Triathlon
Camiguin Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo has expressed his province's readiness to host the Camiguin International Triathlon[CIT] in its capital Mambajao on February 23.
Romualdo, a former congressman, said, “We are only too glad to be a partner of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines[TRAP] in its sports tourism thrust and develop our province blessed with beauty and bounty into a triathlon center.”
TRAP president and Asian Triathlon Confederation senior vice president Tom Carrasco, for his part, said, “Camiguin, unspoilt as it is, is very ideal for communing with nature. That;s why we will hold the first ITU O3 Long Distance Triathlon in Asia also in Camiguin in August.”
(O3 is three times the distance of Olympic triathlon which is 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run.)
Speedo, Department of Tourism, Asian Center for Insulation Phil,. Fitness First, Philippine Sports Commission and Province of Camiguin sponsor the Camiguin International Triathlon, first qualifying event for local hopefuls to the 1 st Asian Bali Beach Games.
Cagayan de Oro Triathlon, led by Wilson Lu, co-organizes CIT which includes a sprint competition (750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run).
A day after the race, there will be an optional bike around Camiguin (64 kilometers) serving as a test ride for the O3 and an optional trek to Mt. Hibok-hibok.
