ITU, TRAP hold triathlon camp at Subic Freeport
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and its corporate partner British Gas (BG), together with the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) as host, are giving world-class learning experience to Asian athletes in the ongoing BG-ITU Asian junior training camp, and to Asian triathlon and duathlon coaches in the competitive coaching accreditation course held at the Subic Bay Freeport.
The week-long junior training camp, which attracted 18 young and promising triathletes from six countries, is being handled by Australian triathlon coach Jamie Turner, a veteran of more than 40 training camps all over the world, while the four-day coaching course is under ITU sport development official Allan Ley.
The Philippines has six junior participants led by national team members Kim Mangrobang and Joash Serrano with Andrew and Ana Gatmaitan, Roel Odario, and national duathlon junior champion Analiza Dysangco. Hong Kong sent four junior triathletes, while Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Chinese-Taipei have two each.
In the coaching accreditation course, former national women's triathlon champion Ani de Leon, and duathlon coaches Mark Candelaria and Melvin Fausto attended the workshop while Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore were represented by four coaches each, Chinese-Taipei by two and Thailand one.
Turner said the junior camp is part of ITU's worldwide program to develop triathlon in Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa and the Americas.
