Asian O2 Long Distance Triathlon Set Dec 1
The Philippines will have a rare privilege of hosting the very first Asian 02 Long Distance Triathlon, a double Olympic distance race of 3K swim – 80K bike – 20K run set December 1 inside the Subic Bay Freeport.
Under the auspices of both the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), the endurance race, sponsored by SPEEDO, SBMA, POWER BAR, Fitness First, David's Salon, David's Day Spa, Herbalife, Asian Centre for Insulation Phils. Inc., and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), is expected to attract close to a hundred triathlon enthusiasts who will compete in both the centerpiece event and the side event.
Together with the individual long distance race, there will also be an inter-club race with 3 members, best 2 to count, a team relay with 2-3 members, and a sprint triathlon consisting of a 1K swim, 24K bike, 5Krun open to 14 to 19 year old junior triathletes and to beginner adults.
“ITU is actively promoting long distance triathlon and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) takes pride in the fact that we are the first to organize race of this magnitude on an international level in this part of the world, as of now, we already have received inquiries from foreign triathletes who want to join the event, said “TRAP President Tom Carrasco Jr.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers in the individual category, to the top 3 clubs and relay teams, and the top 3 male and female age group finishers. Total cash pot and gift items amount to P200, 000.
Registration for the race is presently going on with entry forms available at the TRAP Makati office, Unit 514 Makati Executive Center, Leviste cor. Rufino Sts., POC office at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Vito Cruz, and any SPEEDO concept store in leading malls in Metro Manila.
Individual entry fee is pegged at P3,600 until November 30. For the team relay entries, registration fee is P 6,000 until November 30, and P800 for the month of November for the sprint triathlon event.
TRAP is also giving a 10% discount to all TRAP – registered athletes and 20% discount to students and senior citizens, final registration day is November 30.
