HK, Japan split honors in Legenda-Subic Triathlon
ATHENS Olympian Daniel Lee Chi Wo of Hong Kong lived up to his lofty billing while adding a third title by winning yesterday's 12 th Legenda-Subic Bay International Triathlon.
The winner of the event in 2000 and 2001, Lee took the lead in the first loop of the bike leg before fending off his challengers from Japan and New Zealand.
Lee clocked a cumulative time of 2:03.14 and won P40,000 for his effort while former Subic Bay Triathlon champion and newly-crowned Asian Aquathlon champion Kodo Hiramatsu finished in 2:04.10 for second place.
Rounding out the top five male elite finishers in the ITU and ASTC-sanctioned race were Iwata Satoshi, New Zealand Liam Scopes and teammate Hamish Johnson.
Fil-Am and SEA Games bronze medalist Arland Macasieb was the best placed Filipino, finishing 10 th in the event also sponsored by Speedo, PowerBar, David's Salon and Spa, Asian Centre for Insulation, Herbalife, PSC, and Grand Seasons, Legenda Suites, and hosted anew by the SBMA.
Satomi Okouchi saved the day for the Japanese by fashioning a come-from-behind victory over local bet Lea Coline Langit in the female elite division for her very first taste of a championship, clocking 2:26.37 for the distance.
Langit finished in 2:30.08 while her national teammate, Mimi Lucas, placed third in 2:38.47.
Junior champions were national training pool members Joash Serrano and Kim Mangrobang, who clocked 1:09.33 and 1:19.05, respectively in the shorter distance race while Polo Tri captured its first National Inter-club championship with a cumulative time of 10:35.23, followed by Fitness First-Team A in 10:41.15 while in third place in the team event was Herbalife in 10:48.05.
