Asian O2 Long Distance Triathlon 2006
(an International Triathlon Union and Asia Cup Series event)

Start and Finish at Subic Bay Freeport (Boardwalk Area)

GETTING TO SUBIC BAY FREEPORT
Subic is accessible by land travel from Metro Manila. It is 130 kms from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila and travel time is about 2½ hours. There are also direct international flights from Chinese Taipei, Korea, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore and from other cities to Clark Special Economic Zone which is about one-and-a half hour drive to Subic Bay Freeport. Certain
chartered flights also land directly to Subic Bay Freeport.

RACE DISTANCE
O2 Double Olympic Distance - 3km swim, 80km bike, 20km run
Sprint Distance for Juniors (14-19yrs old) & Adults (20 & over)– 1km swim, 24km bike, 5 km run

RACE COURSE DESCRIPTION
Swim:
Distance: 1 km per loop (O2- 3 loops, Sprint- 1 loop). Rectangular shaped swim course. Description:
Clockwise direction of swim with 10 meters beach run each loop. The swim course will be marked
with buoy lines. Kayaks will be deployed to guide some of the swimmers or provide safety
assistance. Those in need may hold on to a kayak or onto the buoy line to rest but not to propel
forward. The distance from swim exit to transition is 30 meters, beach sand with intermediate shower.

Bike:
O2 distance: 80kilometer (2 loops). Direction: counter clockwise, keep right, road quality: smooth
asphalted road with some cemented portions. Going to Naval Magazines, approximately 1.5 kms
before Camayan point as its turn around point then back to the starting line for the second loop
The 2 loops cover approximately 20kms. Flat road course with the remaining 60kms on winding and
rolling roads going to the turn around point but more down hill going back.

2 Wheel Drop Points: Entrance of Naval Magazine and near Dumuk bridge.

Station
Water and ice stations, POWERBAR aid station (ENDURANCE sports drinks, fresh fruits, crackers
and bread), paramedic station, and Radio communication center will be located at the entrance of
the naval magazine, near the mid-point of the bike course.

Hydration (RECOVERY sports drink/ice) and Massage at the El Centro, water and ice station at the finish line. Two water stations at midpoints of run leg.

Junior & Adult Sprint distance 24 kilometer loop (2 laps). Road Quality : Smooth asphalt with some
cemented portions. Water station: None

Run:
Distance : 2.475 kilometers per loop (O2 distance 8 laps, Junior/Beginners Adult 2 laps).
Direction: Clockwise, keep right. Road quality: Smooth asphalt. Description : Generally flat.
From transition 2, triathletes climb Dumuk Bridge at the start of the run to cross over to other
side. After completion of required loops, triathletes will turn right at Espiritu St, right again at
Dewey St and right again at Rojas St where the finish line is. A shower of water for cooling
will be provided by SBMA Fire Department near Pancake House. Drinking water, Powerbar’s
ENDURANCE sports drinks & ice station: 2 stations every loop, spaced + 1.2 kilometers apart.
Available for all, even for the very last age group finisher.

Finish Line & Awarding :
The finish line will be located at the center of Rojas St which is between Legenda’s El Centro and
Courtyard Inn. The brunch will be served in and the awarding held in El Centro (Legenda’s new and
large air-conditioned tent). El Centro will also be the venue for the brunch and awarding.
Brunch will be served starting 9:30 am.

PARTICIPANTS' CATEGORIES
O2 Male & Female Overall
O2 Male Age Groups: 20~24 25~29, 30~34, 35~39, 40~44, 45~49, 50 and older
O2 Female Age Groups: 20~24, 25~29, 30~34, 35~39, 40 and older
Inter-club team competition (3 team members compete as individuals, time of best 2 count)
Relay team competition (composed of 2 or 3 members, with each member doing a leg or 2)

INTER-CLUB TRIATHLON COMPETITION GUIDELINES

- Each triathlon club may field one or more relay teams composed of 3 members. Only up to two team per club are qualified for podium awards.
- The times of the best 2 members will count, and will be summed up.
- NO DRAFTING rule enforced for team and Individual. So team members will still be racing as
individuals.
- Team members will race separately as individuals.
- Team members still qualify for individual awards.
- Top 3 teams (maximum of 2 team from the same club) get medals for all 3members.

- The members must already be registered as individual entries.
- Changes in the team composition will be allowed until 20 November 2006.

RELAY TEAM COMPETITION
Each relay team will be composed of 2 or 3 members, with each member completing one or
two sports discipline. Tap-off will be at designated spot in the transition area.
